Alex Grousset

Drumming Teacher

Alex Grousset

Alex was born in Niort, France and showed very soon his interest in music, by playing... on a set of kitchen utensils. He practiced very interesting rhythms on his mother's sauce and stew pans. Amazed by her son's talent, she didn't hesitate one second to register him at the Portet sur Garonne's music school. His teacher, Christian Digne, helped Alex discover each sweet sound which could be created by such a beautiful musical instrument as the drums.

After a few years learning the rudiments of music and other drum rolls later, Alex attended the jazz band of the music school lead by pianist Roger Lecussant. Although he loved playing jazz, he never gave up his first loves: rock, pop, the blues, rock n' roll and funk music. Later, Alex graduated from the University of Toulouse with a DEUG degree in Arts, Music Mention and also received with honors two diplomas in drums and improvised music from the Conservatory of Toulouse where he took lessons from teachers such as Christian « Tonton» Salut and José Fillatreau. And in addition, he obtained the State Diploma in musical education and teaching in 2003.

Passionate about all types of music, Alex is a professionnal musician in freelance since 1997 and likes playing all musical styles. He toured internationally and recorded in a wide variety of styles including pop, urban, electro, jazz big band and blues. In 2004, Alex moved to Montréal, Canada where he plays in Empire ISIS and Isolate Cast, and teaches drums in Québec's music schools. In 2005 and 2006, Alex lived in Los Angeles, USA. He was an Ambassadorial Scholar appointed by the Rotary Club International, where he won a grant to study at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where he studied with Jeff Richman, Gary Garbatini, Jeff Bowders, Carl Schroeder, Rob Carson, Chuck Flores, Gary Hess, Bobby Borg...
